 Hello CTE Team,

I hope you all had a great Winter Break and that your return to school has been smooth. As we gear up for the long stretch of March in the Pacific Northwest, I hope you have things planned that keep you inspired and motivated to learn and grow alongside your students.

CTE has been fortunate to share incredible stories with our community about the great work happening in both our classrooms and extended learning opportunities. While this is our final week of CTE Month, our Communications team would love to continue highlighting these impactful activities. Please keep sharing your stories!

Conditional Renewal Update

After consulting with the OSPI Certification Office, we have some clarifications regarding conditional renewals. They are basing their renewal expectations on the 2018 PESB rules changes.

  • This year, you must document 50 clock hours in content areas related to your field, instructional practices, CTE fundamentals, or other professional development that enhances your role.

  • STEM hours are NOT required for Conditional Renewal but are required for Continuing or Initial Renewals.

  • Moving forward, OSPI will expect engagement in specific areas outlined in the WAC (Plan 2 courses meet this requirement).

  • All conditional CTE teachers are required to complete a CTE Training Plan. These plans were created for the Audit and need your autograph. Unless discussed otherwise, your plan states that you will begin Plan 2 courses before the end of 2025 and complete all coursework by 2029.

  • You will be required to update your training plan every two years until you obtain Initial Certification. You will need to have a plan created by you for renewal this year.

  • If you would like a copy of your 2023 Professional Training Plan added to your CTE folder, please reach out to Chelsea or me.

  • Once you have entered your 50 clock hours into EDS and completed an updated CTE Training Plan, connect with me, and we will finalize your renewal by signing off and processing your conditional certification renewal request.

Updates from Last Week

  • Program Review (Audit) – We submitted all required documents and received OSPI feedback. Some adjustments are needed for Leadership (CTSO) Programs of Work and/or rosters to ensure compliance. Additionally, all conditional CTE teachers must sign a training plan. Please make any necessary adjustments as soon as possible so we can resubmit.

  • TILT Meeting – Focused on TPEP.

  • EVERFI – District usage updates indicate that many educators are not utilizing this free curriculum resource. If you haven’t explored EVERFI, it’s worth checking out!

  • South Sound Advisory Council – Moving forward, Program Advisory Committees will be responsible for signing off on new course frameworks before submission to SSC for final approval.

This Week’s Events

  • DLT Meeting – DLT will meet with the Squaxin Island Tribe to discuss Tribal partnerships with OSD.

  • School Visits – Chelsea and I will be in the High School buildings on Wednesday and Thursday. We’ll do our best to stop by your classrooms but feel free to find us if you have anything urgent.

    • OHS Resume Day (Wednesday, Feb. 26th)

    • CHS Mock Interview Day (Thursday, Feb. 27th)

Let’s make it a great week! Looking forward to seeing you in your classrooms soon.
